PALESTINE -'The Moral Issue of our Time' (Gabor Mate)

An illustrated talk by David Oddie

It didn't just start on October 7th 2023. The genocide in Gaza has affected the lives of millions. But the conflict there is an ongoing story with a past, a present and a future. Join David Oddie on his journey to try and understand that story as he asks: Is there ANY hope for the future? Have the creative arts got any part to play on the road to that future?

David has worked and travelled extensively on the West Bank and for several years ran an arts project in Bethlehem in partnership with Al Harah Theatre

Charity Giving Liskeard

Liskeard Meeting raised £194 for Sight Savers and in October and November the focus will be St Petroc's, Cornwall's charity helping the homeless in the county.

Liskeard LM

Marion Coleman of Liskeard LM wrote to MP Anna Geldard re the Gaza situation. What follows is a brief summary of her reply:

Thank you for writing to me about the crisis in Gaza. I share your deep concern for the suffering of civilians and fully support urgent international efforts for a ceasefire, humanitarian access, and the release of hostages. The UK Government has reaffirmed its commitment to a two-state solution and intends to recognise Palestine in September unless Israel takes meaningful steps to end the crisis.

North of the Border

Peter and Alyson Bellenes of Liskeard Meeting joined the Episcopal congregation in Kinross, Scotland, on the 27th July. The congregation has a long standing commitment to supporting Ukraine and their local food bank. Meanwhile at the very same time, back in Cornwall, Ian Gordon of Herodsfoot was being endowed with the Cross of St Piran for his service to the community. The congregation at Kinross gathered round Peter, waving his St Piran flag sweatshirt, to send their greeting to Ian and Cornwall.

Advices No 6: Do you work gladly with other religious groups in the pursuit of common goals? While remaining faithful to Quaker insights, try to enter imaginatively into the life and witness of other communities of faith, creating together the bonds of friendship.
